Foodies! Take Notice!
This morning the proprietors of The Shady Victorian sauntered on downtown. We set out to have an amazing breakfast at one of Prescott's newest boutique restaurants: B. Simple, located at 220 S. Montezuma and owned by Doug & Laura Weckerly. And boy, did we score!

This tastefully decorated, clean-as-a-pin restaurant with a gleaming stainless kitchen, lives up to its name as it has some simply wonderful and interesting dishes on the menu, including Breakfast Papas. How about that for different? I was delighted to see from the menu that I would have some difficulty deciding on what to order. Why? Because everything and I mean everything on the menu sounded so delicious (hats off to the genius who wrote the menu). I finally chose the "Hash" Papas (Homemade Corned Beef Hash, cream, fresh green Chile, caramelized onion, cheeses & two eggs atop a bed of butter browns...butter browns--now that name alone just mentally suggests all sorts of mouthwatering yum).
As I eyeballed other orders arriving at adjacent tables, I found myself saying, oh, I wanna try that...and that, too. Oh, and look at that. The plating and presentation of every dish was top notch and the portion sizes very generous.
Doug Weckerly has owned and successfully operated his own restaurants all over the U.S., including, Washington, Colorado and New Mexico. The couple recently moved here from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and opened B. Simple in July of this year. Certainly a challenging time for any restaurant owner, especially a new restaurant. Laura told me that this will be Doug's last restaurant before he retires, but I have a feeling he has said this before. I believe the restaurant business is in his blood--the preparation of his dishes sure reflect his love for what he does.

I'm so glad this lovely couple decided to light here in Prescott, where we can all enjoy Doug's culinary masterpieces. Laura is a delight and so is the wait staff.
B. Simple is not your average breakfast and lunch, slap and dash eatery. It's real, homemade food that is made to be savored and enjoyed and that, my friends, is what makes this eatery oh so different.
Let's welcome and support B. Simple and Doug and Laura Weckerly by stopping in for breakfast or lunch. I know I'm already thinking about the "Betty" burger (a 9 oz. hand-pattied burger, peanut butter--yes, you read that right, peanut butter--fresh green Chile, sharp cheddar cheese & house-made blackberry jam on a butter griddled bun). Ask Doug to explain how the peanut butter makes the burger. Doug's skills in the kitchen have a complexity that far exceeds the functional fact or act of feeding. B. Simple is an experience that every foodie will enjoy.
The Shady Victorian proprietors will highly recommend B. Simple to all of our guests. And you can be certain that we will be regulars there, too.
